MEDIA STATEMENT

Microplastics are solid synthetic polymer (plastic) particles, insoluble in water. Due to their small size (<5mm) they often pass through sewage water filtration systems and can pollute waterways; microplastics impact the food chain as they can be ingested by marine organisms. Cosmetics/ personal care products account for 2% of microplastic pollutants in the ocean*. Ahead of legislations, Watsons Singapore have banned the use of microplastic in rinse-off Watsons Brand Personal Care products since 2014.

To further fulfill our commitment to the environment, Watsons Singapore decided to extend the ban to all rinse-off cosmetics products / personal care products containing microplastics, and have creased the sales of such products since December 2016.

2015:
Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home on our Global Volunteer Day

Led by our COO, Watsons took the opportunity during this season of giving to reach out to the elderly at Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home on our Global Volunteer Day - 30 Oct 2015. Apart from donating our Watsons products, we warmed the hearts of the residents with something very simple - Our presence. A simple touch, hearty chat, or even a gentle hug was all it takes to bring a smile and twinkle in their eyes. It was a day of happiness for the residents and a day of fulfilment for us, as we sang and danced together during the Sing-Along session. Contributing back to the community we serve is always the value Watsons hold dearly. Let's all spread our love this season of giving.
